What I will ask,

Read them in advance if you like. The conversation is more useful when you have already thought about one or two.

    What is on your week, specifically?

    Not the role description. Not the company strategy. The thing on the table right now — the meeting, the metric, the conversation that is taking up the most room in your head.

    What have you already tried?

    Honestly, and with the parts you would normally edit out. The thing you tried and quietly stopped. The version of the answer you have been circling. Mostly so I do not waste either of our time re-running what you already ran.

    What would change, if this were resolved?

    Concretely. The next meeting that becomes easier. The conversation that becomes unnecessary. The metric that you would expect to start moving. Not strategy — outcomes.

  4. 04

    Who else is in the room?

    Not the org chart. The two or three people whose minds you actually need to align with. What they think the problem is. How that differs from what you think the problem is.

  5. 05

    What does the short version of "done" look like?

    Not the full vision. The version that closes this current question. The one you could ship in a month. Often this is also the answer.

  6. 06

    What are you not saying?

    Asked carefully. Sometimes the answer is "nothing, it's all on the table." Sometimes it is the entire engagement. Either way, this is the question that earns the trip.
