09 / FOR DESIGNERS COHORT III · 2026

Mentorship,
closer to a craft
than a motivation.

A small standing cohort of six designers, mid-career, who meet with me individually once a month and as a group once a quarter. No curriculum. No homework. A careful, recurring conversation about the engagements you are in and the calls you are weighing. Now in its third year.

applications open until 31 May · two seats available for the 2026 cohort
10 / THE FORMAT

What it actually is.

Mentorship gets romanticised. The actual practice is closer to a craft — deliberate, structured, oriented around judgment, not motivation.

01

One year, six designers.

A cohort begins in June and runs through May. Six designers, chosen carefully. Once the year is over, we usually stay in touch — but the formal engagement ends.

JUN — MAY · SIX SEATS
02

One-to-one, monthly.

A sixty-minute conversation with me, once a month. On your engagements, your calls, your career, the question that has been quietly on your week. No agenda template — though we usually agree on one beforehand.

12 SESSIONS · 60 MIN EACH
03

Group, quarterly.

The six of you meet, together with me, once a quarter. Three hours. Each of you brings one thing you are working on. The room is small enough that we can be honest, large enough that no one carries the whole conversation.

4 SESSIONS · 3 HRS EACH
04

Reading, sparingly.

I will sometimes send a short essay, a chapter, or — more often — a question to sit with for the month. Never a syllabus. Often the most useful thing is the absence of reading.

OPTIONAL · ~3 / YEAR
05

Closing, in writing.

At the end of the year, each of you writes a short letter — to yourself, twelve months younger. We read them together in the final group session. It is the most useful artifact of the cohort, by a wide margin.

ONE LETTER · READ ALOUD
06

Honest, about price.

€480 per month, billed annually. Refundable in full at any point in the first month. After that, prorated. No upsells, no extra workshops, no surprise charges. The price has been the same for three cohorts.

€5,760 / YEAR · FULL REFUND, 30 DAYS
↘ WHO IT IS FOR

The shape of a
useful fit.

  • Designers with 6 — 14 years of experience, mid-career, doing serious work.
  • Currently in a role (in-house, studio, or independent) where decisions are yours to make.
  • Comfortable being honest about engagements that are not going well.
  • Inclined to read, but not at the expense of doing.
  • Not looking for a coach. Not looking for an accountability partner. Looking for one careful conversation a month.
↘ AND WHO IT IS NOT FOR

The shape of a
poor fit.

  • Designers in their first three years — the work is good but it is not, yet, this work.
  • Anyone looking for portfolio reviews, interview prep, or hourly help.
  • Career-change conversations (I respect them — but I am not the right person).
  • People who want to be told what to do. I rarely will.
  • Founders or product leaders — I work with you elsewhere; the mentorship cohort is specifically for designers.

What the room said.

By month three I had stopped trying to perform competence and started thinking out loud. That is the entire useful difference. The work changed shape within a quarter.

The quarterly group sessions are the part I would not have known to ask for. Five other careful designers, in one room, twice a year. That alone was the year.

↘ APPLY FOR THE 2026 COHORT

Two seats open.
Applications close 31 May.

The application is a short email. A few honest sentences about where you are in your career and what you would bring to the room. No CV, no portfolio — though I will likely ask to see your work after the first reply.
